I'm gonna be offline for a bit. Either in the hospital or in bed. Typing isn't going so well either, so would prefer phone calls over anything. I will read email, but answering it is difficult, for the moment.
Yea, my bike brakes apparently iced up. I happened to be looking at a map because of an upcoming intersection and when I looked up, there was a car in the interection in front of me. Unable to brake, the last thing I remember was trying to put my bike down. Don't remember much else, except for what my teammates told me. Now, all I know, is everything hurts, have a few broken bones, and some small bleeding on the brain. In reality, I'd say I'm pretty lucky. The ER staff cut all my clothes off, my helmet was smashed, and don't really know what shape my bike is in. I was told over and over, the helmet saved my life. I do know from what I heard, the Odyssey race doctor was on scene in a short time, for which I owe him lot. I do remember waking up and being very hypothermic, but always seeing my teammate Joe there with me. He essentially helped orchestrate my escape back home when my wife arrived.
I'm home now, out of the scary hospitals in SW Virginia, since I got to visit two of them. That's a long story for another day.
Gonna be a long recovery it seems.
I won't be posting here for awhile until I am mended up.
Put away the Blackberry and rest up Bill. And try never to scare us like that again. Kudos to the OAR medical team who was there in a flash, and our great teammates Michelle and Miles who sprang into action in a split second to get help and try to make Bill as comforable as possible.

Oh man, I noticed your team had a medical DNF on the race leaderboard but I didn't know anything beyond that. I'm glad to hear you'll be OK and I'll have to give you a call in a few days.
